Abstract

Tungsten is a chemical element that has the symbol W for the Germen: Wolfram. Its atomic number is 74. Tungsten is a hard, heavy, steel- gray white metal found in several mechanical machinery. Such as light bulb filaments, X-ray tubes and superalloys. For most metals Tungsten has the most highest melting point, and the highest tensile strength. Tungsten can be used all over the country. Most of them are usually sold in different countries like China and the Philippians. They could be made in different countries and shipped here in America and sold everywhere. The US does not mine tungsten. In other countries they use it for mining oil out of the ground mostly in China.
Tungsten is a metal it can still be a problem to our health. It can enter the body and exit the body leaving some damage. You inhaled the chemical form the discharge that it is giving off when it’s in use. When it’s breathed in its sent in your bloodstream to the lungs and causes mucus that is swallowed or spit out. This can cause people to have breathing problems cause cancer or birth effects. It can also be in the food you eat or in the water you drink. When you eat drink touch breathe in anything that contains Tungsten it gets in your blood then carried away to all parts of your body. If tungsten were banned then some things wouldn’t be able to proceed, but other then if anything were to happen nothing really would. There are little amounts of things that use tungsten to proceed, and if there were no tungsten in use, then some tools that people use everyday wouldn’t be able to work. A lot of things would change if tungsten were banned, but in another view it would be good if it were banned because some if it effects our health and we don’t need anymore chemicals getting into our body. China is the most popular country with tungsten. We get is all from there. China is either growing it or finding it in their ground, and then sends it all around. They really don’t use it because some parts of china couldn’t afford it or they just don’t use the things we use here in America.
My position on Tungsten isn’t really strong. For me its just another metal in the Periodic Table, but looking into this project really made me think different about all the chemicals in America, well all over every country. If Tungsten were banned I don’t think it would be a major problem in this country. Yes it’s used for many things, but no it’s not an earth-shattering problem. There shouldn’t be any action taken into this element because it’s not going to kill us, or hurt us in anyway. It can, but it rarely happens to any one nearly anyone.

Background

TUNGSTEN
This chemical could also be called wolfram. It’s a chemical element, and has the highest melting point of all the non-alloyed metals. Tungsten is usually used in many electrical applications, mostly light bulbs filaments, and in X-ray tubes. Its used in the lights for when you go to a photo shoots. It makes out the picture good and only in white and black.
It’s a light bulb, but it wouldn’t just be put in a light for your house or any other lights we use regularly. It’s used to special purpose, like in X-rays its used for the background light to show and make up the picture. Also it’s used in lights for photographers and their lights, and it’s a warm tone to make the picture come out good.
It uses electrical elements to run and work. It gives off a red light so if you were to take a picture of a light it would pass off that lights wavelength and make the picture clear as if you weren’t taking a picture of a light. It’s like a filter with the light. The elements light never stops. It keeps going and is never at zero, like the give off or the access of the light. It’s like the temperature of the object your taking a picture of or using the light bulb for, there are different colors the light would give off.

Health

Since Tungsten is a metal it can still be a problem to our health. As its in your body is usually spends time in the bones fingernails and or hair. The only way it exits your body is through urine. If you have/get a lot of Tungsten in your body it gets through to the digestive system, and is released from your body in the fences. In the air it has been reported to be less than 100 nanograms in a cubic meter of air of Tungsten. In the amounts of foods, there has been no research of that where there has been Tungsten founded. In Denmark there has been a lot in vegetables that have been growing in the soil and in the ground.

Envorinment

When Tungsten degrades it can become poisoning. When entered in the body Tungsten can last for weeks months or even years. The longer it’s in your body the more damage it can cause. It all depends on how it gets in your body. For the longest it has been in the body, the faster it will give off its charge and it will start to burn down. For the shorter amount of time it’s in your body, the greater amount of charge it will give off with a lot of power. Tungsten is a metal so it rusts. Over a period of time it will start to rust and not able to do the things it does and not have any use at all. Like any other metals it will just wear down time-by-time when exposed to water or a liquid substance.
For tungsten to degrade it could take up to about weeks or years to filly degrade. When its in a metal form its hard to just make it degrade fast, it takes over time to fully make it non useful and no use at all. When it’s melted down or in the air there is no way that it would degrade or anything because it’s in a form where it just can’t.
To dispose Tungsten you can at times just throw it away like any other trash you have. You may not be able to just throw it away regularly; it still can be exposed to the air when it’s in the trash mixing with all the other chemicals the trash it giving off. That wouldn’t be good for the pollution and the environment which wouldn’t be any better then it is now.

Political/Economic

If tungsten were banned then some things wouldn’t be able to proceed, but other then if anything were to happen nothing really would. There are little amounts of things that use tungsten to proceed, and if there were no tungsten in use, then some tools that people use everyday wouldn’t be able to work. A lot of things would change if tungsten were banned, but in another view it would be good if it were banned because some if it effects our health and we don’t need anymore chemicals getting into our body.
- Well if tungsten were banned the only things that use it now is light bulbs and drills in china and the lights in X-rays that helps the doctors see the actual bones and what they need to see. Tungsten itself costs a lot. It’s not cheap, and to keep it in something to use and work isn’t cheap either. It would be thousands of dollars for more equipment if needed and our country doesn’t need to spend any more money so there would be a problem if it were banned.
If tungsten were banned then we wouldn’t have some just regular stuff like we do today. One would be drills. Tungsten is in drills and we use a lot of drills to get things that are under ground. For instance we use drills to get oil. So if we didn’t have the drills to get the oil there would be a major problem. We wouldn’t be able to drive cars, no heat, cant cook, there wouldn’t be any transportation anywhere and it wouldn’t really be a good thing. People would loose their jobs for not be getting to work on time or not getting to work at all. You would freeze in the winter and not being able to get around is not something someone is looking forward to. Also lights. Some special products use tungsten to light, and if they didn’t have it then something wouldn’t go the right way. X-ray lights have tungsten and if they didn’t have that light then there would be a problem, the doctors wouldn’t be able to help people the way they do with it. That would take a lot, and more people would be getting hurt and or getting away with murders. You wouldn’t feel safe and you would be worried about if something was broken in your body or what was/is wrong with you. The last thing is the lights in the flash for cameras. For professional photographers they would loose their job and wouldn’t be able to take the good pictures they take. That would ruin the whole art side of this world in some ways, and that again wouldn’t be good.
China is the most popular country with tungsten. We get is all from there. China is either growing it or finding it in their ground, and then sends it all around. They really don’t use it because some parts of china couldn’t afford it or they just don’t use the things we use here in America.
If tungsten were banned for an American, or me I think it would have some effect on us. Even thought it nothing we think we use everyday but I think it is. Like before the one thing that would affect our lives is the gas. Things would be a lot different if we didn’t have gas and it would affect our lives greatly. Things just wouldn’t be the same as were used to and it would be hard to live.
If I were to go to the white house and tell the president of the unites states to not banned tungsten he wouldn’t know what I was talking about. This chemical is not a common chemical that people know of. There wouldn’t be a whole political problem or impact on anything or it wouldn’t cause a big problem with people that would argue about this.

Summary

If tungsten were banned the only things that use it now is light bulbs and drills in china and the lights in X-rays that helps the doctors see the actual bones and what they need to see. Tungsten itself costs a lot. It’s not cheap, and to keep it in something to use and work isn’t cheap either. It would be thousands of dollars for more equipment if needed and our country doesn’t need to spend any more money so there would be a problem if it were banned and that would be the cost of anything that would happened. It would be a lot of money and not really be something that we wouldn’t want to happen.
